He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brother Malcolm, his cherished wife of over fifty-eight years, Jimmie Lee (King) Hullett, and a baby brother Alvie Odell. G.W. was a graduate of Mesquite High and attended classes at the Baptist Missionary Association of America Seminary in Jacksonville, Texas towards a degree in Divinity. He was a skilled plumber, using his trade to support his wife, children, and his strongly felt calling as a much-loved preacher, pastor, and evangelist in a number of Baptist Churches across East Texas, notably at Gray's Prairie Baptist Church for over thirty-three years. Prior to his over half century service as an ordained minister began, he had served as a decorated US Army combat soldier in WWII, enlisting in February of 1943 and honorably discharged at the conclusion of the war in late 1945. During his enlistment, he was on the front lines of numerous intense engagements with German forces, having exhibited courage and valor under fire on many occasions. Along with his large family, G.W. Hullett influenced many who were drawn to hear the preaching of the Gospel. He conducted many revivals, as well as serving as camp pastor a number of years at a church camp in Oklahoma. He accepted invitations to step in to the pulpit up until less than two months prior to his death, providing a stunning example of the end result of diligent Bible study. He awed many pastors and students of the Bible with recitation of long sections of God's word after having memorized large sections of Scripture. His absence is and will be felt far in to the future as he lived out his love for his family and his Lord with passion from the time the call was received until the end. Service will be 2:00PM Saturday September 10, 2011 at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 E. Hwy. 80, Sunnyvale, TX. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00PM - 8:00PM.
