Frederick John Stixrud, 67, was called home by the Lord on March 7, 2022, in Rockwall, TX.
Fred, as he was known by all, was born on October 16, 1954 in Bay City, Michigan to Frederick and Marilyn Stixrud.
Fred graduated from El Dorado High School in Albuquerque, NM in 1972, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education from UNM in 1993. He started working as a house painter and went on to become an accomplished entrepreneur, as he built a Furniture Medic franchise among other ventures.
Fred served as a radio operator in the Navy from 1974-1980 aboard the USS Mobile. His deployments during the Vietnam War took him across Asia, from Japan to the Philippines. One notable mission his ship was a part of was transporting Vietnamese refugees fleeing from the country in 1975.
Fred married Christe Stixrud on June 20, 1981. The couple had 3 children; Sean, Andrew, and Kevin Stixrud.
Fred loved to sing in the men's barbershop chorus "The New Mexichords." He was the consummate handyman, always willing and able to fix anything asked of him. He found much fulfillment in home improvement projects, whether it was his own or lending a hand to help others. This was a common occurrence because of his selfless nature. He was most well known as a greeter at church, where he prided himself on always making sure each person to come through the door felt welcomed and loved. So many have shared how his genuine spirit of hospitality impacted their own personal walk with the Lord. He made everyone he spoke with feel heard and important. This is how he is truly remembered.
Fred is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christe; sons, Sean, Andrew, and Kevin (Tori) Stixrud; brothers Ken (Dawn) and Ted (Christina) Stixrud, sister Trudy (Troy) Harper, grandchildren Noah and Olivia Stixrud, as well as his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Fred is preceded in death by Frederick Theodore Stixrud, father, and Marilyn Ruth Stixrud, mother.
