Frankie Johnson

Frankie Dale "Spike" Johnson was born in Lincoln, Arkansas in 1940 and left us peacefully in February 2025 in Mesquite, Texas, at the age of 84. He was a dedicated family man who found joy in the simple things in life.

Dale was given the nickname "Spike" while attending grade school. He was being picked on at school but he wouldn't fight back. His parents told him that if he didn't fight back, he would be in trouble when he got home from school. So the next day, he fought back and the other kids started calling him Spike, which was the name given to the tough guys back then.

After graduating from high school in Booneville, Arkansas, Dale attended Hendrix College where he earned a bachelors degree in business administration. After college, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley, and they were married for over 62 years. Dale also served in the U.S. Air Force, which took him to many destinations in the U. S. and Europe. He loved to travel and was always eager to explore new destinations. He and Shirley often took day trips from the Dallas area. Concerts were another passion of his and he cherished the moments spent enjoying live music. After retiring, Dale faithfully attended the men's weekly Bible Study at church and was a daily reader of the Dallas Morning News.

As we remember Dale, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, adventures and spending time with family.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Johnson; and their children, Michael Johnson and Stephanie Clark (husband Bruce Clark). He was a proud grandfather to Brandon Clark (wife Marci), and Ryan Clark (wife Kaela); and great-grandfather to Ezra, Asher, Cade, Wren, Addison and Paige. Dale will also be missed by his brothers Paul Johnson (wife Colleen), and Frank Johnson.
