Born outside Dodd City, TX on September 11, 1930, Frances overcame Alzheimers on November 10, 2008. She celebrated her 59th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband, Joe E. Smith, on April 22, 2008. In 1952, they moved from the Ladonia area to Mesquite, where they raised their three children. Frances was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, an enthusiastic Girl Scout leader, a dedicated partner in the Joe Smith Plumbing Company and the mainstay of her family and friends. An avid homemaker and seamstress, Frances tirelessly cared for all who crossed her path, while making each person feel blessed with her unconditional love. Through her long, difficult journey with Alzheimers, Frances was lovingly cared for by her devoted husband, Joe, and her dedicated caregiver, Vickie Turner, who has been greatly appreciated by Joe and all her family. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Doug and Ruby Raney and her brother, Johnny Raney. Along with her husband, Joe, Frances is survived by children; Bonnie Turner and husband Wayne of Tool, Texas, Susan Wehmeier and husband Rik of Marietta, Georgia, and Jerry E. Smith and wife Helen of Kingwood, Texas. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren Josh and Sommer Houser, Tricia and Chris Kauffman, Jenny and Joshua Harstrom, Jeff Turner, Doug Wehmeier, Greg Wehmeier, Grant Smith, and Gabe Smith; her precious great-grandchildren McKinley Kauffman, Evan Harstrom and Sakari Houser; and her sister, Peggy Ellard of Grand Prairie, Texas, as well as a host of family and friends. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at New Hope Funeral Home. The service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13 at First United Methodist Church of Mesquite. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Frances memory to First United Methodist Church of Mesquite or to the Alzheimers Association of Dallas.
