COLLIER, Farris Glen, born December 31, 1928 in Mesquite, TX. to parents, Farris L. Collier & Viola M. Chase, passed away January 31, 2011. Upon graduation from Mesquite High School in 1946, obtained employment with Retail Credit Co., now the Equifax Corporation, where he remained for 46 years before retirement as Quality Assurance Manager, Western Region. Joined the New Hope Baptist Church, now the Sunnyvale First Baptist Church April 1, 1951. He married Edna Renee Nelson October 17, 1952 and they have one child. Felicia Melton. He served in the active US Naval Air Reserve for a period of 12 years. He was a member of the Mesquite Public Library Advisory Board for six years where he served as board chairman. A longtime member of the Mesquite Historical & Genealogical Society. An avid family genealogist, he would become a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Sons ofthe American Revolution, Sons of the Republic of Texas,Descendants of Mexican War Veterans and Society of the Colonial Wars. Preceded in death by parents, sisters, Zenella Pitts, Wanda Winnell Rice; brothers, Charles D. Collier & Bonner Joe Collier. Survived by wife, Edna; daughter & son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Michael R. Melton; grandchildren, Andrew M. Melton and Sarah A. Melton; several nieces and nephews. Service will be 2:00PM Monday February 7, 2011 at New Hope Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday eveningfrom 6:00PM-8:00PM. Interment in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sunnyvale, TX.
