Emily Sue Adelstein

Emily Sue Adelstein was born August 24, 1937 to Wildred Wayne McWhirter and Mattie Zoe Emond. She grew up in Campbell, TX, later moving to Dallas, after she married her first husband. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Sharp, Sandra Gennaro, Sharon Bennett, Sheryl Gorman and brothers Billy McWhirter and Ronnie King.She was preceeded in death by her sister Martha and brother Wayne. Her work career started as a librarian.She later went to work as a social worker and shifted to the career from which she retired, a court supervisor for the Dallas County Adult Probation office for 30 years.She retired to care for her second husband, who shortly after passed away, December, 2004.Wanting to stay busy, Emily began to work part-time as a library aide, going full circle in her career.She continued working, until health problems forced her to retire in June, 2011. Emily always loved reading, but she also liked drawing, painting, making ceramics and playing games.Her greatest love and interest was always, her family. She continually made time to get her grandkids and spend time with them.She lived beside her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren for sixteen years. Emily is survived by her son, Robert Oliver and daughter, Regina Trammell.Her grandchildren by her son are Jacob and Joshua, 23.Grandchildren by her daughter are Alanna, 25, Sean, 22, Heather, 11 and Michael, 8.She also was blessed with one great-grandson, Ian, 4.She lived with her daughter, Regina, son-in-law, Tony and grandkids the last year and a half, as her health continued to decline.Emily finished her life surrounded by her loved ones.January 15, 2014, she was taken by the hand and led home by her grandson, Brandon, who died in December, 2005, at the age of five.She'll be waiting for the rest of her family to welcome them home. Arrangements can be sent to Victory Baptist Church for delivery on Saturday, prior to the memorial services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Emily's memory to Ellen Brooks Memorial Library at Forney High School, where Emily worked until her illness.
