Elvie Howard Moorman, 93, of Mesquite, was united with her Lord and Savior on April 30, 2016. Elvie was born on April 1, 1923, in Hughes Springs, Texas, to Lawrence Howard and Julia Goodson Howard. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four siblings. She is survived in death by her children John Moorman Jr. of Houston, Ann Hester of Canton, and Dan and Pat Moorman of Mesquite; nine grandchildren, Lana (Tom) Schultz, Susan (Shelly) Hester, Lee (Danny) Morgan, Paula Hester, Stephanie (Jason) Wright, Ryan (Christian) Moorman, Joey (Erica) Moorman, Matt (Shanda) Moorman, Andrea Moorman; twenty great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren. Elvie moved to Dallas when she was fifteen years old to be a Nanny to twin girls. At age seventeen, she married John Andrew Moorman, who she would lovingly call, "Andy." Elvie and Andy opened a small grocery store on Hickory Tree Road in Mesquite. Shortly after Andy's passing in 1960, Elvie closed the store and took in ironing for the public in her home in order to care for her three children. After her children grew older, Elvie took a job at the Holiday Inn in Mesquite, as a front desk clerk. Elvie retired fro the Holiday Inn in 1998. She also sold Avon for twenty years. Elvie enjoyed her days of retirement gardening, sewing, and baking. Elvie spent numerous hours quilting by hand, and she shared her beautiful quilts with family and loved ones. Elvie's garden included a variety of vegetables, and she maintained a manicured yard with many blooming plants. She liked baking homemade yeast rolls, strawberry cake, and pecan pie for family and friends. She also loved fishing. Elvie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for over fifty years, where she taught Children's Sunday School. Elvie recently moved her membership to Wildwood Baptist Church in order to be closer to home. Elvie's family rejoices that she has eternal peace in being united with her Lord and Savior, as well as loved ones who preceded her in death.
