Elsie Lucille Elkins

Elsie was born February 1, 1924, at home to Mary and John Appelt in San Antonio, Texas.She had one older sister, Dorothy.In July 1942 Elsie began working for the Civil Service Authority at the Army Air Forces Navigation School in Hondo, Texas until she married Carl Elkins on May 27, 1944, after a whirl wind courtship of two months.A year later she gave birth to her only child, Shirley. As an Air Force wife, she followed her husband throughout the United States and Europe, living in England and Germany and moving more than ten times.Elsie was extremely proud and supportive of her husbands career in the Air Force.The highlight of her travels was a trip to the Holy Land in 1961.After her husbands retirement from the Air Force in 1968 she moved to Dallas, Forney and finally the Mesquite home of her daughter and son-in-law where she spent the last two years of her life. After retirement Elsie and her husband enjoyed traveling with their grandsons.She was an avid reader and loved playing the piano. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and John Appelt, her sister Dorothy Alms, her nephew Robert Alms and husband of 64 years Carl Elkins. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Lange and son-in-law David of Mesquite, Grandsons: Stephen Lange & wife Terry of Cotulla, Texas, and Gerard Lange & wife Amanda of Wilson, North Carolina. Her great grandchildren include Felix Lange, Alex and Emily Guyton, Kyle Joseph and Stephanie Mc Carty and husband Chris. She is additionally survived by her brother-in-law, several nieces, a great niece, great nephews and great-great nephews. The family wishes to thank Esteem Hospice for their support and care throughout Elsies last months of life.
