Edna Michelle Reams

June 24, 1943 — July 1, 2008

Edna Michelle Reams was born June 24, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to R.B. and Clara Mae Phillips. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and child of God. She lost her battle to cancer on July 1, 2008 at the age of 65. She was preceded in death by her parents R.B. and Clara Phillips; 7 brothers: Charlie, James, Walter, Elmer, Johnny, Herman and Eddie Raymond; and grandson, Ned Jr. She is survived by her husband, Orin Reams; sons: John Thomas and Craig; daughters, Julie and Karen; grandchildren:Aaron, Amber, Heather, Kristen, Ashley, Chris, Leslie, Brandie, Kayliegh; step-sons, Orin Jr. and Dan; step-daughters, Terry and Tammy and 9 step-grandchildren.Also survived by brother, Donald; 3 sisters: Doris, Lorene and Betty; and many friends and family at New Life Tabernacle. Our Mom had 8 brothers, 3 sisters and she was the 11th child from a grandmother we never met.Mom was young when her mother passed away, but if she was anything like Mom, she was great! Growing up in the 40s with 12 kids, there wasnt a lot of money. She told us a lot of how poor they were and how thankful we should be now.She told us many stories of rough times back then, walking to school in cold weather in Oklahoma and not missing days at school, doing hard housework, sweeping hard clay floors, doing many hard chores. She had sisters that helped raise her and her brother Johnny Ray. With a family that big, they all had to pull together and make things happen. Her Father was a man of God.He gave his heart to the Lord and his Christian life and faith as been passed down to the third and fourth generation. Mom has four children that she raised the best that she possibly could. We have no regrets at all.We have seen her work two jobs plus go to school to take care of us.Mom moved a lot to find a better way. When we were young Mom took us to many places to enjoy life. Some of our favorites; Magic Mountain, Knotts Bery Farm, Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Yellostone National Park, Redwood Forest, Carlsbad Caverns, Grand Canyon, Ghost Towns, Mexico City, Six Flags over Texas and many other places. She loved to travel to California beaches. Our childhood was not as bad as hers and that is all she wanted for it to be better for us.We learned how to go boating, water ski, and camp, which we did at many different lakes. She just loved it and so did we!She was a great cook and loved to cook for us all. Mom taught us many things; kindness, manners, respect, (yes sir, yes mam), how to make right choices and do the right things. She was always there to mend a scraped knee, various other injuries and personal problems. When brother and sisters got married she was there again for us, then grandchildren came, she was there for us and the grandchildren. The grandchildren got to experience travel like us.In 1980 Mom re-established herself back in the Dallas Metroplex. This was a very trying time from 1980 to 1988.Then she remarried a wonderful man, Orin P. Reams. He loved her very much. And things were getting a lot better in her life. She needed itthe last 20 years of her life were great. She enjoyed 9 grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren.She did many things with them as we said..they got to travel to many places with her and she was always there for themthrough all the trials and tribulations they faced and there were many. She was the backbone to our family when things went wrong.Who did we call? Mom!.We knew we could talk to her about anything and she had the answer. The main reason was because she knew Jesus. She was a faithful Christian, very involved in her church.Activities such as fundraising, ministering, outreach, witness, helping others.Mom loved her family and people of all races.Mom and Orin traveled parts of the world we will probably never see.God was first in her life. She loved time with family: Christmas, Easter, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Family reunions, Thanksgiving (Christmas was her favorite time with all of us).She love to see the joy in our eyes and smiles on our faces. When she saw that joy in her children and grandchildren it pleased her so much. Mom had 3 sisters; Doris, Lorraine and her baby sister Betty. She loved yall so much. Mom, we thank you for everything. We all love you so much and we miss you on earth, but we will see you again! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord O Death where is your sting LOVE from all your children, grandchildren, sisters, nieces and nephews Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
