HANEY, Edna L. of Mesquite, born September 20, 1914, passed away August 27, 2004. Survived by nephews, James T. Watts & wife, Marcy of Mesquite, TX.,W. Berry Watts of Mesquite; great nieces & great nephews, Jennifer Watts of Austin, TX., Jessica Watts of Philadelphia, PA., Serena Pitkin of Sandy, UT., Brooks Watts of Nacogdoches, TX., great great niece, Haeley Pitkin of Sandy, UT. Edna was born and raised on a farm in Gibson County, Tennessee.Her sister Mamie milked the cows but Edna liked making gravy and frying green tomatoes.She married Bonnie Haney at age 23. They were complete opposites but by all accounts it was a happy marriage that lasted 33 years until his death in 1970. Edna put her heart and soul into everything she did. During World War II she worked in a munitions plant, and she was always the financial wizard for her husbands electrical business in Medina, Tennessee. In 1973 she moved to Texas to be closer to her mother, sister and nephews.In her early 60s she obtained a real estate license and sold houses in Mesquite.She retired from her latest career in retail sales at Sheplers Western Store only last year after celebrating 25 years with the company. Until just before her 89th birthday in 2003, Edna was still living alone, working part-time, driving herself to work and church, serving family dinners on Wednesday nights and stirring up the world.All who knew and loved this spunky lady celebrate her life and are thankful for the way that her life has enriched theirs. Services will be 2:00PM Sunday, August 29, 2004, at the New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Sammy Hargrove, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Medina, TN.Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5:00PM - 7:00PM.
