Earnest "Skoodum" Kearney, age 87, of Sunnyvale, TX, passed March 4, 2020. He was born January 9, 1933 in Sunnyvale, TX to William DeLaney Kearney and Ruby Duckworth Kearney. Skoodum started working Ellis General Store in Sunnyvale at age 6 where he helped sweep the floors and stock the shelves. When the Landers family took over a few years later, he continued working there until he purchased the store in the mid-80s and remained there until he sold the store in 2017, which is now Kearney Feed Yard restaurant. He attended school in the old New Hope community. Skoodum worked hard his entire life up until only a few days before his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; Daughter Pamela Kearney; and grandson, Luke Kearney. Surviving are his son Earnest Kearney Jr. and his wife Janet of Wills Point, TX; grandchildren, William DeLaney “Laney” Kearney, JoAnn Kearney Rossi and Sarah Kearney Abbot; great-grandchildren, Hanna Kearney, Luke Kearney, Cameron Rossi, Benjamin Rossi and John Paul Rossi. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church, 3018 N Belt Line Rd., Sunnyvale, with Bro. Charles Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Sunnyvale.A gathering of family and friends will take place from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday evening, March 5, 2020 at New Hope Funeral Home.
