Durbon J. Lucas

LUCAS, Durbon J. was born on February 2, 1927 to John & Jewel Lucas. He grew up in Van Zandt County near Grand Saline. After attending school he worked with his dad for a couple of years operating a farm. In 1945 he entered into military service in the U. S. Army. He served in the U. S. Army, Army Reserves and the Texas State Guard for the next twenty-three years before being honorably discharged in 1969. On April 1, 1950, Durbon married Dorothy Petrea and later moved into a small house in Seagoville. In 1955 Durbon and Dorothy became Christians. During that same year they were contacted by Rev. Harlan Shippy to see if he might be interested in helping to start a new church. Durbon accepted the challenge and along with several other individuals started Mesquite First Nazarene Church. Durbon spent many hours working to help build and grow the church so that souls could be added to the Kingdom. He served in many capacities and attended faithfully until his health began to slow him down. Finally, on Friday evening August 7, 2009, God called his servant home to a much deserved rest and reward. Preceded in death by parents, John Lucas, Jewel Malone. Survived by wife of 59 years, Dorothy Lucas; children, Sylvia Collins, Randy Lucas; grandchildren, Shawn Branch, Misty (Branch) McCoy, Amanda (Lucas Boozer, Tammy Branch. Service will be 11:00AM Tuesday August 11, 2009 at First Church of the Nazarene, 1301 N. Belt Line Rd., Mesquite, TX. 75149. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00PM " 8:00PM. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery, Grand Saline, TX.
