Dorothy Jean Jones Smith Jean Smith had her home going on May 8, 2006.She was born in Trenton, TX. on June 28, 1927 to Clarence and Emma D. Jones. She is survived by Jim G. Smith, husband of 58 years; daughters, D'Ann and husband Dennis Carpenter, and Denise Jacobs; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jillian Carpenter; nephews, John and David Jones and their families; several cousins and the extended Smith family.She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Edwin Jones and wife, Pollye Jones. Jean attended Trenton Schools from 1934 to high school graduation in 1944. Achieving the honor of valedictorian of both elementary and high schools.She attended North Texas and East Texas colleges, where she was a member of the Tooanoowa Club, and campus beauty in 1947. She married Jim G. Smith, November 9, 1947 and lived in Dallas 46 years, before moving to Rowlett, TX. in 1993 and then to Garland in 2001. Jean was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church since 1954, serving in the children's program, church library, and exercise class for many years.She was associated with Phyllis Ann Accessories in Dallas for 30 years. Something very special in her life was the 34-year friendship with a group of six ladies who met each month for lunch at various restaurants.Ten daughters, members of Alpha Phi Sorority brought the "Do Nothing" together in 1972 at a Mothers' Club Meeting. A memorial service was held 3:30PM at Lakeside Baptist Church, 9150 Garland Rd., Dallas, Texas 75218, on May 11, 2006. Jean was an organ donor and cremation followed.Private interment at a later date will be in Leonard, TX.
