Dorcas Hicks was born February 14, 1924 in Huntington, Cabell County, WV to Martin Van Buren and Lillian Pennington Hicks and passed away August 7, 2011 in Mesquite, TX. Dorcas lived in Huntington until 1941, spending the war years in Orlando, FL. In 1945 Dorcas married the love of her life, David Harold Napier in Orlando. After the war, Dorcas and David moved back to Huntington for a short time before moving to Illinois in about 1947. In 1949, her son, David Martin Napier, was born. Dorcas worked for sixteen years as Office Manager for a CPA firm in Decatur, IL. In 1969, a job transfer for David meant a move to Roanoke, VA where Dorcas enjoyed sewing, traveling, volunteering and knitting. 1985 brought retirement and a long-planned move to Florida. A love of golf developed about this time though she never stepped foot on a golf course. She followed the PGA tournaments and knew every player on the course. Crossword puzzles were also a great source of enjoyment to her and were nearly an obsession. If her morning paper was late it could wreck her whole day! She did the Dallas Morning News commuter puzzle right up until the last day of her life. Her husband, David, died in 1991 and Dorcas continued to live in Florida until 2000 when she moved to Mesquite, TX to be near her family. Though she missed her beloved Florida, she thoroughly enjoyed being near her grandsons and their families, especially enjoying her role as G-G to Skylar, Kaylee, Cooper and Ava. In addition to her husband, David, Dorcas was preceded in death by her parents and siblings-Raymond Hicks, Virginia Townsend and Leoda Baumgardner. Dorcas leaves her son, Marty and his wife Pat of Mesquite, TX; Grandsons, Jeremy and his wife Carol of League City, TX ; Aaron and his wife, Jessica of Aledo, TX; Great-grandchildren-Skylar, Kaylee, Cooper and Ava; sisters-in-law Spicy Napier Perdue of Kenova, WV, June Napier Canady of Hampton, GA and Marie Napier of Dayton, OH and many nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, TX at 10 am Saturday, August 13, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: American Lung Association P.O.
