Donald Lindsey Smothers

Donald Lindsey Smothers, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer and dementia.Don graduated from Abilene Christian University and has kept close ties with friends, especially from the Choral Group Agape.Don was a brilliant chemist, starting his career with Halliburton in the oil field labs.He then moved to Dallas and worked for the Carroll Company and Aloe Mega before starting his own company, Natural Technology, Inc., dba NATURTECH in 1989, doing private label formulating and manufacturing of personal care products, liquid dietary supplements, pet products, cleaning products and many others.He developed Annette Funicello’s perfume.Don was one of the founders of the Aloe Science Council, which later became the International Aloe Science Council, on which he was a current board member.Don had a passion for aloe vera and developed a proprietary process for aloe which required no pasteurization.He was able with the White Rock Kiwanis Club to pursue his love of singing by participating in their fund raisers with the gracious assistance of the late Tom Hughes, head of the Dallas Summer Musicals, and over many years had lead roles in shows such as South Pacific, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dallas, Music Man and Kiss Me Kate.After moving his business to Terrell, TX, 19 years ago, he became active in the Terrell Kiwanis Club and it’s many projects and also served as its President for a term.He is survived by his wife Virginia, who was his best friend, soulmate and partner in NATURTECH, 3 children, Jennifer Lemons, David Smothers and Lauri Anderson, 3 stepchildren, Eric, Chris and Jason Porter, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.He is now with his beloved mother Helen, his dad Bill and brother Ted, as well as many beloved aunts and uncles.May he now rest in peace.Service will be 10:00AM Saturday September 8, 2018 at Highland Oaks Church of Christ, 10805 Walnut Hill, Dallas, TX. 75238.Visitation will be one hour prior to service.Private family interment will be at Holly Tree Cemetery, Holly Lake, TX.
