It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Don Grant Kirk, of Sunnyvale Texas, who left us on December 20, 2024. at the age of 91. He was born on January 26, 1933, to parents William and Lucie Kirk. Don was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who lived a full life.
Don was born in Silverton, Texas and grew up in Floydada, Texas. He graduated Texas Tech University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He came to Dallas and took a job with Sun Oil Company doing land surveying.
Don met his wife, Nelda Featherston, in Dallas, Texas and the two were married on January 18, 1958 in the Old Red Courthouse. They were married for 66 years and enjoyed the fullest of life and together raising two children, Diane and David. Don would take his family on 4-week camping trips during the summer. And over the years, He and Nelda were able to visit all 50 states, several Canadian provinces, and take two European trips.
Don was enthusiastic about his hobbies. He did woodworking and carving; collected, restored, and played many different types of string instruments; and was a lifetime genealogist who wrote several family history books. And he was always helping his children with their projects.
Don is survived by his spouse, Nelda; daughter, Diane Kirk Gouge and husband Jack (Hal); son, David Kirk; grandson, Jake Gouge and wife Melissa; granddaughter, Katie Gouge Copeland and husband Derek; and great-grandchildren, Elise Gouge, Ben Gouge, Jack Copeland, and August Copeland.
