Diana Teresa Muzquiz (1958 - 2024)
A loving and devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to caring for others. She brought light and laughter into the world and touched the lives of many in immeasurable ways that will never be forgotten. Diana Teresa Muzquiz, 65, of Mesquite, Texas, unexpectedly passed away on April 25, 2024.
Diana was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 22, 1958 to Petra and Cipriano Lopez Jr., the fifth of eight children. Many of her fondest childhood memories were centered around family, such as enjoying home-cooked meals around the dinner table and summertime picnics in the front yard with slices of watermelon. After graduating from Burbank High School, she studied nursing at Texas Woman's University. As a registered nurse, she worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio and Parkland and Children's Hospital in Dallas. Later she became a teacher, giving over 25 years of service in education at Dallas ISD, St. Pius X Catholic School and Mesquite ISD. Her work as a teacher even earned her the distinguished honor of being inducted into the Mesquite ISD Apple Corps. It was always important to her to give back to her community and dedicate her life to serving others in any way she could.
Diana met the love of her life, Robert, in 1979 while she was attending nursing school in Dallas. Early on, the two enjoyed spending time together and were especially fond of going to see movies and going dancing. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in San Antonio in August of 1982.
In 1983, Diana and Robert moved to Mesquite, Texas, where they started their family. Here they raised three children, Daniel, Aaron and Amanda. Over the years they made many good memories together, often spending time with family and friends throughout Texas and making regular trips to the coast.
Everyone who knew Diana knew how much she loved cooking for others. In addition to her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, she also earned a Certificate of Culinary Arts from El Centro College. She enjoyed seeing fine art and live music with her family and friends and keeping fit through dance.
Diana will always be remembered for her nurturing heart, loving smile and how she always put the needs of others before her own. We couldn't have asked for a better wife, mother, sister and friend. We will miss her every day, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Diana was preceded in death by her father Cipriano Lopez Jr., mother Petra Lopez, and brothers Cipriano Lopez III and Raul Lopez. She is survived by husband Robert; sons Daniel and Aaron (Eric Schwier), and daughter Amanda; siblings Jesse Lopez (Martha), Beatrice Lopez, Yolanda Lopez, Yvonne Lopez, Janie Lambaria (Daniel) and Kiki Cecilia Vela; brothers-in-law Ernest Muzquiz (Alice), Roland Muzquiz (Sandy) and Don Muzquiz; sisters-in-law Gloria Villarreal (Emilio) and Ramona Teter; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Diana's memory to The Mesquite ISD Education Foundation, The American Diabetes Association or The Children's Health Charity.
