Derrell Dean High passed away at his Mesquite home on August 9, 2010 at the age of 83. He was born in Chandler, Texas on September 23, 1926 to W.W. and Julia High. Derrell married Violet Northcutt on December 19, 1947. Derrell and Violet adopted a daughter, Sandy, on June 3, 1954 from Hope Cottage in Dallas. Derrell was ordained in June 1967 by the Assemblies of God and pastored for 8 years at the Union Bower Assembly of God in Irving, Texas. Derrell was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served as a medical corpsman during World War II at the hospital in Kodiak, Alaska. The John Deere Plow Company employed Derrell for 40 years. He retired in 1987. Derrell was preceded in death by his parents, W. W. and Julia High, four brothers, and four sisters. His loving wife of 62 years, Violet, daughter Sandy, one sister, Jewel Ferguson, of Longview, and numerous nieces and nephews survives Derrell. Visitation will be at the New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas 5:30-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 11. Funeral services will be at the Mesquite First Assembly of God Church, 422 S. Ebrite Street 11:00 Thursday, August 12. Interment will be 3:30 P.M at the High Cemetery on the Old Kaufman Highway in Canton, Texas.
