Day, Denny born December 22, 1932 passed away on February 15, 2015. He is preceded in death by parents, Jim and Laura Mae Day; brother, Duane Day. Denny is survived by wife of 60 years, Leeda Rae Day of Mesquite; children, Sherrie Day of Mesquite, Debbie Shewmake and husband Patrick Shewmake of Mesquite; grandchildren, Matt Shewmake of Royce City and Todd Shewmake of Dallas; brother, Jim Day and wife Brenda of Rockwall; sisters, Darlene Day of Dallas, Betty Haire and husband John of Mesquite, sister in law Loretta Day Harris of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews. Denny graduated from Howard Payne University in 1956 where he met and married his wife. He graduated from East Texas State University, now A & M Commerce, in 1966 with M.Ed. He was a long time-member (45 years) of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. After college graduation, he began teaching and coaching in DeLeon, Tx. , followed by coaching in Royce City, and then on to Mesquite ISD where he and his wife both enjoyed 30 year careers.Denny was a teacher and coach at Agnew Jr. High and Mesquite High School igniting his love for Skeeter Football.He did not miss a MHS Skeeter game until 2014.Following his career as a coach, he was also an Assistant Principal at Mesquite High School and later retired as the district’s Director of Transportation.His daughters have also been dedicated to MISD as 30 plus year employees. Denny was an avid fisherman and loved his lake house at Cedar Creek Lake.He fished almost daily after retirement and often hosted all you can eat fish fries for friends and family.He also loved to garden and had a talent for growing anything from fresh vegetables to fruits and pecans. Most of all, Denny loved his family and doting over his two grandsons, Matt and Todd.He will be missed by those that loved and knew him. Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 18th from 5pm – 7pm at New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale, TX.Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19th at 2:00pm – Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church.Interment will be held at New Hope Memorial Gardens, Sunnyvale, TX.
