David Coates

April 4, 1951 — May 27, 2007

David Allan Coates, born April 4, 1951 passed away May 27, 2007 peacefully in his own home with wife and family after a heroic struggle with pancreatic cancer, which is the most aggressive of all cancer; from diagnosis to departure, is typically measured in weeks. David, this loving husband, gallant father and exceptional grandfather endured this battle for almost two years with absolute resilience. A perfect quote from him when often asked "How are you feeling?" he would reply "I'm Fine". What a trooper. Survived by his wife Vickie Coates of Forney, TX, Mother and Father, Joan and Walter Coates of Bedford, TX and 5 children: David Robert Coates, of Soldotna, AK, Kristin Greenlee of Keller, TX, Christopher Sage, of Mesquite, TX, Shannan Norberg of Royse City, TX, Brandon Sage of Dallas, TX and 8 grandchildren: Courtney Coates, Tristian Greenlee, Haley Sage, Nicholas Sage, Ashton Norberg, Karis Norberg, Dane Norberg, Taylor Sage, and Sister, Beverly Jones of Bedford, TX and Brother Bob Coates of North Port, Florida. David Allan Coates was born in Bangor, Maine and then moved to Needham, MA. Later the family relocated to Phoenix, AZ and then to Garland, TX where he graduated high school at South Garland High and achieved a license in Real Estate. Throughout this journey, he met the love of his life, Vickie Virginia Coates; who he married August 5, 1983. They are definitely two peas from the same pod; still newlyweds after 23 years. They made a heck of a team. He was proficient in all his professions, ranging from an accomplished painting contractor, a licensed claims adjuster, Real Estate business-owner of 23 years and Project Manager of Rolland Construction for the last eight years, heading up million dollar projects. David Allan Coates, the most compassionate, admirable man who ever had a chance to walk the face of the earth was an affectionate husband for 23 years; an accomplished father for over 30 years, and a doting, warm-hearted grandfather. He was a brilliant man with vast talents and hobbies, from being a terrific artist, craftsman, master carpenter and just about anything under the sun. His talents were truly amazing. Some even called him a genius, because there was absolutely nothing he couldn't master. He was happiest when being with his wife and family. He also enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons and getting tattoos. He was a loved man. Services will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 pm at New Hope Funeral Home, 500 East Hwy 80,Sunnyvale, TX 75182(972) 226-2111
