David Scott Bays

Bays, David Scott, LCDR, U. S. Navy, (Retired) died May 12, 2008. He was born June 7, 1917 to David Wade and May Thompson Bays. David grew up in the Palestine Community, Hopkins County, graduated from high school in Cumby, Texas and graduated from East Texas State University before joining the Navy. During World War II he served in the South Pacific Theater of Operation. David Bays worked in oil exploration for GSI, then TI and retired from Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was a fifty one year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mesquite, Past President of the Host Lions Club of Mesquite, Past President of the Ranger John Beeman Chapter of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, an active member of the Military Order of the World Wars where he received the coveted Patrick Henry Award of Patriotism, Past President of the Mesquite Historical and Genealogical Society. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Norman Wade Bays. Survivors are wife, Marjorie Buckelew Hynds Bays; brother John Frank Bays and his wife Edna of Virginia; daughters Glenna Hynds Johns and husband Michael, Norma Sue Hynds Corey and husband Jerry; grandchildren James David Schulgen and wife Shelli, Sue Netherland and husband J. R., Glen Schulgen and wife Katrina, Heather Teer and husband John Sparks; great grandchildren Johnathan and James Schulgen, William and David Netherland, Benjamin Schulgen and Cole Sparks; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be 10:00AM Wednesday May 14, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite, 1028 S. Belt Line Rd., Mesquite, TX. 75149. Interment will be in Mesquite City Cemetery, Mesquite, TX.
