Darlene Springer was born in Waco, TX on January 26, 1944, and went home to be with her Lord on August 24, 2019. Darlene journeyed through this life as a daughter, sister, Mom, “MiMi,” aunt and friend to many. She was fondly known as the “Vel-Mar Lady” from her many years of employment at the infamous “Vel-Mar” in Pleasant Grove. Darlene later retired from the Office of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts after 23 years of service. She enjoyed gospel singings and traveling with her best friend, Becky and her sister, Melva but nothing gave her greater joy than spending time with her only child, David and grandchildren. Darlene was an active member of Landmark Family Fellowship and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clara Shaw and James J. Merritt; sister, Patsy Hannon; brother, James Merritt; and husband, James Higginbotham.She is survived by her son, David Higginbotham and wife Angy; grandchildren, Jennifer, James, Brandon and Christian; step-grandchildren, Zachary and Zander; great granddaughter, Averi Renea; sister Melva Foster; along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Landmark Family Fellowship, 2523 Clay Mathis Rd., Mesquite, TX 75181 on Saturday, August 31, 2019.Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by the “Celebration of Life” service at 11:00 a.m.Interment is at Laurel Oaks Cemetery following the service.
