HEWITT, Coy Don “Chief”, age 75, a Vietnam Veteran passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2018.Coy was born in Grand Saline, TX on December 7, 1942 to L.D. and Deliliah.Coy was supported by family and caregivers during his 2 1/2 year battle of pancreatic cancer.He is survived by his wife Bertha Hoffman Hewitt of 49 years, 2 sons Adam & Joby, 3 daughters Dawn Salinas & husband Genaro, Samantha Flores & husband Chris and Christina Hewitt, 13 grandchildren Brandon, Bubb & wife Erica, BB, Corey, Alli, Jewels, Eric, Makayla, Alaina, DJ, Jordan, Alyssa and Trevor; 1 great grandson Grant Edward Salinas whom he called Cheechako.He is also survived by 2 brothers and 8 sisters. He was proceeded in death by his parents L.D. & Deliliah Hewitt, son Jeffrey Thomas Hewitt, and 4 brothers Ernest, Ray, Dale and Phillip. Coy joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 on August 2, 1962 and served for 40 years, 6 months and 2 days.He retired as an E-7 Chief Petty Officer and also filled in as E-8 and E-9 rank positions throughout his career.Coy worked for the City of Dallas for 20 plus years and retired as Supervisor for the EBS Shop. Coy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Welding and taught Hunter Education classes for Texas Parks & Wildlife.He loved to travel to Alaska to fish, hunt and visit family and to Paris, TX where he was able to spend quality time with his family and friends during hunting season. Coy touched many hearts and never met a stranger.He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
