Clyde Rayburn McKinney, age 82, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather.Clyde went to meet our Lord and Savior on December 5th, 2019.He was born June 12th, 1937 in Slocum, Texas to his parents Reuben and Alva Lee McKinney.Clyde was preceded in death by his parents. He was raised in Cayuga Texas, where he attended High School, and led the Wildcats to two state basketball championships.Clyde attended Henderson County Junior College where he played basketball on scholarship, and then graduated from East Texas State University with a Masters degree. Clyde is known by his family and friends as having an optimistic and encouraging outlook, being respectful, possessing a mentor and teacher spirit, and displaying an always-present sense of humor that got used frequently in the stories he told and the pranks he played, holding unwavering faith in the Lord, and for having a gracious and considerate soul. Clyde had many hobbies and passions.He deeply enjoyed the outdoors, and especially loved to hunt, fish and play golf.He loved spending time with his long-time friends, both going to “Wednesday Night Choir Practice” as well as spending weekends at the deer lease. He cherished his time spent at the family farm in Grapeland, and gardening there and at his Mesquite home.Clyde enjoyed watching sports, as well as attending his grandkids’ games and Mesquite high school football games. Clyde dedicated his work life to enriching the lives of children. He started his career teaching math to high school students in Terrell Texas in 1959.He worked for Mesquite ISD for 36 years, starting as a math teacher at Wilkinson Middle School, and spending the later years as the administrator of the school district’s Transportation Department. in Mesquite. Clyde was that teacher you had in school that touched and impacted your life. Clyde also enjoyed driving buses for both the Mesquite ISD, Terrell ISD, and charter bus lines during summers. Also, he competed and won the North Texas Association of Pupil Transportation annual competitive event, the Bus Road-eo, and later served as an organizer of the annual event. Clyde will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Cindy McKinney, brother Bill McKinney, daughters Cynthia Gutierrez and husband Kelly, Martha Shuttleworth and husband Gary, Shannon Davis and husband Steve. Clyde took extreme pride in his grandchildren; Chasity Swehla and her husband Dustin, Christan Smith and her husband Daniel, Casie Hill and her husband Chris, Lacy, Jacob and Josh Shuttleworth, Tyler and Dillon Davis; as well as pride in his thirteen great grandchildren Dawson, Cailey, Davin and Claire Swehla, Carson and Cooper Smith, Chloe and Colby Hill, Mason, Logan, Madison, and Hudson Murphree, and Liston Shuttleworth. Also he is remembered with love by Scott and Julie Prather, Amy, Brandon, Brittyn and Breanna Barber, Amber, Chris, Kaden, Kameron, Kynzie, and Kyndel Montes, Missy and Daren Wise, Melinda, Mark and Ford Carey, Amy and Greg Wales, and many Mesquite ISD co-workers and students, hunting, fishing, and golfing partners and friends. Clyde will be dearly missed by all that were blessed to know him, and he leaves us all rich in wonderful memories.
