On Thursday, December 21, 2023, Claude W. "Buck" Woolverton passed away at the age of ninety-one, surrounded by family.
Buck was a fun-loving person who will be missed. He enjoyed showing Bulldogs, tinkering in the garden, collecting coins, and storytelling. For years, he was actively involved with his church and served as a Deacon at Oates Drive Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas.
Born on July 27, 1932, in Gainesville, Texas, Buck joined the United States Navy at the age of 18 and was stationed on the USS Manchester during the Korean War. After the war, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve. Buck was proud of his service and his decorations which include: the National Defense Service Metal, the Korean Service Metal, and the United Nations Service Metal.
After serving in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army Reserve, he continued to serve the nation via a new career with the United States Postal Service where he worked for thirty-five years until his retirement.
Buck is survived by stepchildren, Debbie Hill, Dianah Hill Hart, and Donald Hill and wife Kellie; grandchildren, Meghan and husband Jared Atchison, Morghan and husband Ross Roach, Brandi and husband Jamie Storey, Tyler Hart and wife Brittany of Rendon, and Courtni Hart and fiance' Elliott Grattan; eleven great-grandchildren; his loving in-laws, Laura and Larry Bannister; and many caring friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hill Woolverton; his mother, Malley Butler Riddell; his father, Claude Eli Woolverton; stepfather, Earle Riddell; brother, Alton Woolverton; and baby Woolverton.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral service following at 10:30 a.m. at Oates Drive Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas. A private burial will be held at The Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
