Claude "Sonnie" Stevens

Claude Penn Stevens, Jr., loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Mesquite, TX.Claude "Sonnie" was born December 9, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas.He attended Carter-Riverside High School before entering the service. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. He spent most of his career working in the trucking industry and later worked as a Maintenance Director until he was injured and no longer able to work. After his retirement, Sonnie could be found working on guns, making knives or woodworking in his shed. Sonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Bonnie Stevens and brother William (Bill) Stevens.He is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Jackie Peck Stevens; son Shawn Stevens and Shawna; son Courtney and wife Allison; six grandkids: Haley, Gentry, Landry, Finley, Delaney and Kenadi.Sister-in-law Jeannie Owens; sister-in-law Ellie McIntrye and husband Gary, sister-in-law Trish Johnson and sister-in-law Linda Stevens and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, January 23 and Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas.Services will be officiated by Minister Ryan Smithey.Sonnie will be laid to rest at a future date at the DFW National Cemetery.
