Charles Wayne Maughon passed away peacefully on July 8, 2009 at his home in Forney, Texas surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 11, 1936 to Hershel and Opal Maughon in Fort Worth, Texas. Charles served with the U.S. Army after graduating from Joshua High School. He and his wife, Evelyn Sprawls, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 11, 2009. He and Evelyn remained loyal Texans living in Colorado City, Odessa, Crowley, Mt. Pleasant, and Forney. Charles worked for Texas Electric (TXU) for 32 years. After retiring in 1993, he and Evelyn traveled the US, Canada, and Mexico. Winters were spent with friends in the Rio Grande Valley. Charles served as President of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club, Deputy District Director of the East Texas Lions Club, President of Mt. Pleasant Youth Baseball Association, District Director of Dixie Youth Baseball, was a member of the Scottish Rite Freemasonary for 41 years and a member of the Football Officials Association for 33 years. Charles officiated several Cotton Bowl games and served as lineman during pre-season games for the Dallas Cowboys. Charles is survived by his wife Evelyn; son Brian Maughon & wife LeAndra; daughter Diane Smith & husband Jeremy; granddaughters Jazzmayne & Baylee; grandsons Ethan & Jacob; and sister Freddie Sims. A private memorial service will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
