Charles “Chip” Gatewood MacLelland III Chip MacLelland, a mentor and role model to many, was a resident of Mesquite for over 40 years.He served both his country and his community throughout most of his life He was stationed in Korea while in the U. S. Army Signal Corps in the late 1950s, served two terms on the Mesquite City Council in the 1970s, a year of which was as mayor pro tem, and he was one of the original DART board members, representing the City of Mesquite for 18 years.Over a number of years, he held positions on state, county, and city committees.He spent much of his life working in the communications and data industries.At his retirement, he and his team were working on the largest, non-governmental computer in the world.He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Dr. Jackie Hill MacLelland; his sons Charles “Chuck” MacLelland IV, Russell “Rusty”. MacLelland; his grandchildren Charles MacLelland V, Madison Strother, Bailey Cummings and a number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 10:00AM Thursday March 16, 2017 at New Hope Funeral
