Charles William Lewis

Charles William Lewis, Jr of Sunnyvale, Texas, passed away on Nov. 3, 2019 in his home. Charles was born in Austin, TX Nov 20, 1946 to Charles William Lewis and Lora Marie Jackson. Charles attended school in Houston at Stephen F. Austin High School and finished his senior year at Thomas Jefferson High School, Port Arthur, TX in May 1965.Upon graduation he served his nation as an Able Bodied Seaman in the United States Merchant Marines.He completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Sociology in 1973 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX.In July 1975 Charles began a 28-year career at FCI Seagoville, Federal Bureau of Prisons. Charles William Lewis and Rita Rosann Overturf married on December 14, 1974 in Houston, TX.In July 1975, Charles and Rita began their “homestead” in the Dallas/Mesquite area, where they grew a wonderful family.Charles is survived by his loving wife, Rita Lewis of 44 years. His oldest son Charles Russell Lewis and spouse Anna Marie Daniel Lewis, grandchildren Adam Charles Lewis and Mary Anna Lewis live in Murphy, TX.His second oldest son John Andrew Lewis and spouse Mireily Tejada Lewis, grandchildren Esmeralda Marie Lewis and Charlotte Ester Lewis reside in Melissa, TX. Also living in Sunnyvale are his daughter Rebecca Anne Lewis Whittington, her spouse Marion Ryan Whittington, grandchildren Marion Ryan Whittington Jr., Mason Russell Whittington, Madeline Reese Whittington, and McKenzie Rose Whittington. His sister Priscilla Ann Hargraves and her spouse, Wilfred Joseph “Dub” Hargraves, Charles’s life-long friend, live in Spring, TX.Rita’s sister Mary Susan Botkin and spouse Ronnie Mac Botkin live Montgomery, TX. Charles is also survived by two nieces, Michelle Hargraves Huber of Spring, TX, and Gizelle Nanette Hargraves Williams of Colorado, and numerous cousins.
