Carol Gibson

August 26, 1953 — March 11, 2024

Carol Denice (Sanders) Gibson, beloved mother, "Nana", sister and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on August 26, 1953, in Dallas, Carol was affectionately called "Sister" as the only daughter of Bernice (Watkins) Sanders and Claude Lee Sanders, and the beloved sister to brothers Claude M. Sanders II "Big Claude", Cecil Earl, Ray and Victor Sanders.

Carol's life was a melody of joy, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her family and faith. Her resilience and strength were evident from a young age; losing her mother at sixteen, Carol immersed into academic and extracurricular pursuits; earning accolades such as National Honor Society, "Miss Tennis" and Captain of ROTC. Graduating with these distinctions in 1971 from James Madison High School.

On September 4, 1974, Carol married Michael E. Gibson. From the union with her former spouse, Carol welcomed four children into the world: Asha, Michael, Cory, and Vincent. The joy in Carol's life multiplied with her grandchildren: Michael Jr., Christopher, Michael "Heaven", Cory Jr., Lyla, Nazarah (Hall), Phoenix, Rachel Denice, Viviana, Eric and Emory (Bell). Carol's home was a haven of love and a place where laughter and music filled the air. Professionally, Carol dedicated many years as an Administrative Associate at UT Southwestern, retiring in 2019 from the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Carol's zest for life extended beyond her family and career. Her love for dancing, singing and writing painting a vivid picture of a woman who embraced life with open arms. In April 2024, after finishing her book "Treasure Chest: Jewels of Hope & Quotes," she lovingly sent personalized handbound copies to those held dear. Carol, an entrepreneur at heart, embarked on various ventures, one of which entailed founding her own exercise/dance studio named "Lady Asha" in 1981. Even in solace, Carol found joy in exercise, an activity that resonated with her belief in nurturing mind, body and spirit. Above all, Carol cherished the genuine, effortlessly formed connections she cultivated with individuals from varied walks of life.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Claude Lee Sanders; paternal grandparents, Caroline English and Alex Sanders; maternal grandparents, Hodges Craine and Costrama Watkins; brothers Claude Sanders II, Cecil Earl Sanders, Ray Sanders, Victor Sanders and grandson Michael "Heaven" Gibson.
