Carl Ray Garner, Sr of Mesquite Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Services will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale at 2:00 pm with Dr. Charles Wilson officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow at New Hope Funeral Home Cemetery. Carl was born May 4, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to Edgar Burl and Mary Edith (Raley) Garner. He married Wilma Jean (Welch) on April 22, 1967. He worked as a tradesman in various avenues of the construction industry for forty-five years retiring in May 2014. He was a certified welder, master plumber and certified HVAC technician. He was very involved in church serving as a deacon, youth minister, and a lay missionary. He felt his calling was to serve others in the name of the Lord using his skills on many missionary trips to various countries. He coached and played in church leagues for basketball and softball. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his family, and fishing.He was a sports enthusiast. His greatest pleasure was doting on his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Wayne Garner and Buddy Garner. He is survived by Wilma his wife of 49 years, two sons Carl Ray, Jr, & wife Michele, and Steve Glenn & wife Christi: his sisters Carolyn (Sue) Amlin, Audrey Blair, Patricia Fields, and Doris Edwards: his brothers Glenn Garner, and Gary Garner: grandchildren: Shelbey Stephens, Tarryn & Seth DeHart, Bryce Garner, Olivia Robles, Stephen (Jay) Garner, and MacKenzie Garner: various nieces and nephews. The pallbearers are Joshua Bridgewater, Terry Buchanan, David Dunn, Richard Gambrell, Ben Sanford, Billy West and an honorary pallbearer Tony Perry. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale Missions Fund. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support and words of comfort.
