Carl Edward Elkins was born in Dewville Texas on August 17, 1920 but later moved with his family to Uvalde Texas where he remained until 1942 when he joined the United States Army Air Corp graduating from the Corp of Cadets in 1944. In March of 1944 Carl met Elsie Appelt and within two months they were married at the Base Chapel on Laughlin Air Base in Del Rio Texas, May 27, 1944.On May 27th of this year they would have been married 64 years.He and Elsie had one daughter Shirley who was born in June of 1945. Carl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 27 ½ years during both WWII and the Korean War where he flew 104 missions during combat. He served as a Nuclear Weapons Officer headquartered in Weisbaden Germany from 1959 to 1962; and also served within the Inspector General as a Programs Officer in the Directorate of Inspection, Norton Air Force Base, California from 1962-1968. He maintained flying status his entire career retiring a Lt. Col. from Norton AFB in 1968. Carl is survived by his wife Elsie Elkins and daughter Shirley Lange; Husband David Lange; grandsons Stephen Lange and his wife Terry Joseph-Lange; Grandson Gerard Lange; great-grandsons Felix Lange, Stephanie Joseph, and Kyle Joseph. Service will be 4:00PM Thursday April 10, 2008 at New Hope Funeral Home. Carl will be committed with full military honors at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Friday at 10:00 a.m., April 11, 2008 in Dallas Texas.
