Boneta Joy Porter of Mesquite, Texas died on October 18, 2018 with her family by her side.She was born in Hope, Arkansas on January 25, 1936 to Myrtle Marie Hall and Jessie Wayne Cash.Raised in Hope, Boneta graduated from Hope High School in 1954.She entered Texarkana Junior College that fall and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business in 1956.Boneta also attended East Texas State University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1958 and her Master’s Degree in 1959.Boneta taught in the Mesquite Independent School District for 27 years, retiring in 1991.She enjoyed traveling, quilting, spending time with her family, and volunteering on a variety of service projects. Boneta is survived by Jackie Lewis Porter, her husband of 59 years; her children:Gordon Wayne Porter of Denton, Texas and John Kelly Porter (wife Karen Jean) of Lewisville, Texas; her grandchildren:Zachary Wayne Porter, Grant Thomas Hawkins, and Haley Barbara Elizabeth Hawkins; her sisters:Margaret Ann Sipe of Mesquite, Texas and Genevieve Marie Searcy of Harpersville, Alabama; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Edith Westbrook.
