Billy Morris Campbell

August 25, 1932 — June 24, 2007

CAMPBELL, Billy Morris, former longtime resident of Snyder, TX, passed from this life surrounded by his loving family on Sunday June 24 in the comfort of his own home in Elmo, TX.The family witnessed his great strength of character over these past ten years as he bravely faced the challenges of diabetes and heart disease.Through this struggle came many bittersweet moments of precious hours spent by his side. He was born August 25, 1932, to Lee and Annie Lee Campbell in Capps, TX. He married Wanda Jean Sanders on April 5, 1952 in Safford, AZ.From this union they were blessed with the gift of four children; Billy, Hollis, Diana and David. His greatest joy in life was time spent with family and friends. He had a very special place in his heart for the elderly and children. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader for 15 years. He always made a point of keeping in touch with all his cousins, driving the extra miles to attend every family event and hosted many family reunions. The legacy he leaves behind is that nothing is more important than family and friends. He spent 37 years working in the oil fields of Texas and abroad. He started his career as a roughneck in Scurry County and retired from Sargent Industries after 20 years of service. He continued his career as a consultant traveling to Peru, Egypt, Columbia and Guatemala, and eventually retired from Occidental Petroleum also.He enjoyed a special bond with the Peruvian people and its culture, maintaining many of those friendships throughout the years. During the years as an Oil Field Consultant he worked one month and was off one month, allowing he and his wife, Jean, time to travel and explore the 49 contiguous states. He also loved history, genealogy, western movies, country music and a good game of 42. We truly believe that with his home going he will be welcomed by those loved ones who have gone before us.
