Bill White

August 28, 1936 — August 28, 2020

Billy (Bill) Matt White went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 28, 2020 on his 84th birthday.  He was the son of James Lanon White and Edna Augusta Pruett White and was born on August 28, 1936 in Lamkin, Texas.

He grew up in Gustine, Texas helping out on his family farm.  He loved playing football, basketball and rodeo.  He joined the National Guard in 1954; graduated from Gustine High School and joined the Army in 1955 where he was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1962.

He met the love of his life, Linda Carolyn Floyd in 1959 and they were married on December 16, 1961.  They started their life in Dallas, Texas and then moved to Mesquite, Texas in September 1963 where they started their family.  They welcomed their first daughter, Kristi in January 1964 and four years later their second daughter, Karla was born in March 1968.  They completed their family with the birth of his third daughter, Gena in December 1969.

Bill worked as a facilities planner at Texas Instruments and retired after 31 years of service in 1991.  Before his retirement he also attended Eastfield College to obtain his certification in Heating and Air Conditioning where he started his first business.  Later in life he and his brother-in-law went into business together to start Floyd and White Mowing Service which quickly expanded from small commercial lots to a contract with the railroad. After retirement he started a hot shot delivery business called Texas United Freight Hauler and delivered all over the DFW metroplex.  He also coached soccer, became a deacon at Colonial Baptist Church and read his Bible front to back more times than can be remembered.

He deeply loved his country and serving in the Army.  In every prayer he spoke he always asked for God’s protection over the military troops.  Bill also loved the great outdoors where he would hunt, fish and ride his motorcycle.  He was a Godly man who loved his family and by his own testament he lived by example in his every day walk with the Lord.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, James Lanon (J.L.) White; mother Edna Augusta Pruett White; his mother and father-in-law Charles Olen Floyd and Gena Lucille Floyd and his brother-in-law, Charles Mack Floyd.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn White; children Kristi White King and husband Jody King, Karla White Hodge and husband Scott Hodge, Gena White Rogers and husband Brian Rogers; grandchildren Cody Hodge, Kayli Cox, Kade King, Meagan Cox, Heath King. He also had many nieces, nephews and friends as well as step grandchildren and step great grandchildren whom he loved.
