Betty Cornelius Nelson Rennke Mesquite, TX – Betty Rennke, loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, departed this life to be with Jesus, family and friends who had gone before. A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Mesquite at 300 N. Galloway in Mesquite, Texas at 11:00 AM on March 5, 2016. Reverend David Weber will officiate. Betty was born on June 15, 1921 to Samuel and Lilly Nelson in Antlers, Oklahoma. During World War II, she worked at the Douglas Aircraft plant in Oklahoma City as a dispatcher/delivery person. In August of 1952, she met Fred Rennke, an Air Force Sergeant, at a gathering for the tip toppers club (club for tall people) in Del City, Oklahoma and after six weeks, they eloped and remained married for 49 years, until Fred’s death in 2001. Betty and Fred resided for 40 years in Amarillo, Texas, a place she always loved for its many wonderful people and for its beauty. In 2007, Betty moved to Ada, OK and then to Mesquite, TX to be nearer to family. She was a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, worked as a bookkeeper and later, owner/president of her bookkeeping company for forty plus years. She loved her family, friends, being active and involved with many charities and organizations including, the Make a Wish Foundation, the Amarillo Little Theater and the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a past president of its Amarillo Chapter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her children, Ron Rennke of Grand Junction, Colorado,David Rennke of Mesquite, Texas, and Bruce Rennke of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and grandchildrenWendy, Wayne, Codi, Kendal and Ninoska, and great grandchildren Collyn, Preston, and Harper. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Her favorite book in the Bible was Romans and her favorite verse was Chapter 8, Verse 28: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them”. She will be laid to rest at Llano Cemetary in Amarillo, Texas next to her husband Fred on a to be determined date in April, 2016. For a memorial, the family suggests quality time with those you love, forgiving completely and contributing to the charity or cause of your choosing. God Bless All.
