Algea Wade Johnson

October 2, 1938 — June 20, 2016

Algea Wade Johnson went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, June 20, 2016 at 5:30 in the morning. The oldest son and second of nine children, he was born Oct. 2, 1938 in Powderly, TX to James Algea Johnson and Omer Irene Morrison Johnson. As a child he moved to Dallas where he attended South Oak Cliff High School until the 10th grade, and eventually met his future wife and love of his life, Velma, at Bibleway Church in 1954. The two were married on October 1, 1955 and made their home in Balch Springs, TX where they had three children. Algea began his career as a mechanic and master machinist in 1956 at BB Parker’s machine shop, until he moved to Gardner-Denver in 1971. He remained at Gardner-Denver until its closure in 1987, when he took a position at Vought, part of the LTV Corporation, and was given top security clearance by the US government to maintain the machines which were used to build and maintain aircraft such as the B-2 Stealth Bomber. Algea quickly gained a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and capable machinists at Vought. There wasn’t a mechanical or electrical engine, device, or problem that he couldn’t fix. His genius didn’t end there, though. He was a master carpenter, plumber, electrician, and gardener. In 1998, Algea moved with his wife, Velmato Heath, TX to get away from the city. Algea was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He lived for his family and his Lord. He was a true friend to everyone, always willing to give of his time and resources in any way necessary. He was greeted in heaven by his daughter Trina Janiece Johnson, parents James and Omer Johnson, sister, Patsy Linebaugh, and brother, Melvin Johnson. He is survived by his wife Velma Lois Williams Johnson, son Terry Wade Johnson and his wife Ann, daughter Velma Sharlene Clark and her husband David, grandchildren Jeffrey Johnson, Jenna Burgess, and her husband Brig, Leah, Andrew, and Abigail Clark, great-grandchildren Aidan Johnson, and Caleb and Piper Burgess.
